Tuesday I worked on the tedious editing of programs. Wendy came over and helped a lot more on the curtains. I had a test showing in the evening with Iain, Jason D, Alisa, and Kevin. This forced me to get all the details ready which revealed a lot more than running the exercise in my head. For example, I didn’t think about the cables being long enough or experience the hum of the speakers. It was really helpful just to do that, but also to have them give feedback and ideas and to just see them interact with it.
It was a 13 hour day.

I spent the morning doing my calendar job. The afternoon through 10pm was tedious edits with breaks to set up the speakers better and work on the front window video setup. The edits just continue to take forever – even to get them into a passable draft.
I bought a backup screen fabric in case anything happens. It arrived in the 105 degree heat about as soon as I got to the Room, so I had to turn around and go home to put it inside in case the heat damaged. When I was about home, the alarm went off at the Room. I couldn’t see anyone entering but wasn’t sure. So I threw the fabric in the house and drove back. Nothing seemed different. I have no idea what happened, so that is worrying. Maybe the heat?

I’m writing this Thursday morning. I really hope I can knock out Turkey Volcano today and maybe even do the sound and color mix-down. But I’ll be thrilled just to get the visual edits done.
I sent an email to the newsletter giving an update and sort of putting myself on the hook to do some showings very very soon. Here’s what it said.
Hi Friends! I’m happy to report that I can see the finish line. In fact, I might have some showings posted in the next few days. Here’s information on that. The room itself is ready (or ready enough). The thing that has taken longer than expected are resizing the programs to match the new format. (It’s 50% bigger!). I’ve spent many hours tediously updating each tiny little piece and hope to be done by the weekend. I’ve been averaging about 1-2 hours per minute of footage. Here’s what you should know about showings. First, if I do any showings this weekend I will have all the programs ready but things like the waiting room and other details might not be done, there might be some stops and starts and rewinds, and you might see the occasional cockroach as the pest control finishes taking effect. I know it’s probably not a good idea to tell people about cockroaches being at your business, but I want to be upfront about them. They will be gone by the time I open for real. I only see about one a day and they are mostly dead. The AC units are doing their best this week, but it might be a little warmer than other businesses you frequent. Maybe around 80 degrees. But there is a roof so there’s shade. Anyhow, if you want to be one of the first to see the NEW IMPROVED EUREKA ROOM please be understanding that there may be some unplanned discomforts. Here’s how the ticket drop will work. 1) At noon CST, this Friday and Saturday I will post tickets to this page. (Please note this is NOT the real site but a staging site. You must use that exact link I just gave to see it. ) 2) If I have not gotten it all together enough to do a showing I will have a message that says so. If there are no tickets and no messaging, keep refreshing the page. I might still be making edits and lost track of time. Sign UpdatedI made some changes to the sign in the window. It moves now. Check it out here. |
Thanks for your support! I appreciate your support and patronage. Hope to see you soon! Mike PS: That link to the ticket drop above is also a link to the soon-to-be-published improved website. If you care to look around and send feedback on what might be missing or confusing, that would be awesome. |
