Eureka Room Update 9/9/2022

September 9, 2022

Lots happening in the last few weeks. Here’s a few highlights.

Attendance has steadily increased. This might be from better use of google ads and a couple other channels, but it seems like mainly it’s word of mouth – which is the best way for many reasons. This week looks to almost certainly break the record I set a couple weeks ago.

Free Night #2 happened last night. Attendance was probably only about 12 people, but it’s a pretty easy event to do and the real reason to do it is that we give media and event websites a reason to talk about us. Even if people don’t attend Free Night, they might see it and attend later. Plus, not to be understated, we get some backlinks from good sites.

I’m hiring. I have just too many bookings to get much else done and there’s a lot that needs done. I really want to make some changes to the programs, but I just haven’t found the time. Even having someone work Saturday would be a huge help. A lot of personal things have been taking a hit – exercising, eating well, etc. I even forgot to meditate one day and lost my 850+ day streak. Ugh. So far there’s a lot of candidates and a couple potential great ones. I’ll be interviewing soon. I’ve been so tired I’ll block the last showings and go home and block the two morning showings to get personal stuff taken care of. Even selling out one of those showings would pay for someone to work the whole day. Hiring will be a game changer, especially if I find someone who is an awesome fit.

I hired Polly to do social media and PR and that has been going really well. No way would I have been doing those things with my lack of time. She’s doing a great job and it’s not an easy one because I can’t share much about the Eureka Room because it is a surprise. Hard to be on Instagram if you don’t share photos or video. But she got us great shout-outs in WWW and The Chronicle plus Culture Map listings and other things I would never have gotten around to.

This is also Big Weekend Calendars‘ proofing week, so I’m torn between two companies right now when I don’t even have time for one. Really looking forward to this new hire taking things off my plate.
