Eureka Room Update 9/13/2022

September 13, 2022

I finally got a day off yesterday and used it to not think about any Eureka Room stuff. That helps me so much because I can come back not just with a rested mind but it also allows some kind of subconcious processing of my to-do list. It just seems much clearer what to do when I don’t think about what to do all the time.

Here’s the main areas that I’m working on now:

  • Getting more customers.
  • Updating the TouchDesigner file that runs the show.
  • Improving content
  • Figuring out what Google Analytics is not tracking sales. This is very frustrating and I’ve spent a lot of time on it.
  • Hiring someone to run the show so I can spend more time on the other things.
  • Starting the IRL Experience Makers Club
  • Updating the website to reflect the experience more.

Of these, I’ve focused mainly on getting more customers. But I’m burning out quickly being the front man for the show, so I’m not going to focus on that as much. Instead that energy is going into hiring someone to take over the front of show duties.

The TouchDesigner stuff is kind of done, but I need to test it out. The Ukrainian guy I hired sent me a draft. I tried hooking it up to the tablet and TouchOSC but it was not obvious how to do that, I got frustrated and moved on to more pressing issues.

I’m going to finally work on improving content and the website to get things more aligned to the “charming absurdity” mission. I had some negative feedback from a couple people who were expecting something else. I need to keep those people out of The Eureka Room, so want to make the website more charming + absurd and perhaps a little more “homegrown”. It’s kind of slick looking now, which is nice but I think I could make it more useful to the mission. In a similar vein, the content needs some changes. It drives me nuts that the first program is this slow 7 minute meditative thing. It’s not absurd and I think you’d have to argue hard that is is charming. Some people love it more the most of the programs, but I don’t think it’s a good fit and I want to start them off more excitedly. There’s also some fat to cut from House of Psych and I’d like to try to fit in a 5 minute version of vision test if I could.

I’m hiring out the Analytics gig, even though that is an expensive contractor most likely.

The IRL Experience Makers group is still not happening. I would like to get on that. It is such a quadrant II activity. I know I need to just schedule time to work on it and it will be worth it.
