Eureka Room Update 5/11/2021

May 25, 2021

Note: This post was drafted on 5/11/2021 and finalized today.

Today I will have my friends Matt and Vianca over to do some very preliminary testing of a couple new programs, tentatively called “Laughter 2.0 Caw” and “Synchronized Chanting”. I’m sure they’ll have better names later, but that’s the shorthand for now.

I’m talking to someone from the city of Austin about what I’ll need to get set up in a space legally.  I’m also working on the next couple of programs so I can test them as well.

Also: I think I’m probably hiding.

I keep making programs but I might already be at MVP. With a little polish, I have about an hour of programming I could share with people. But I have it in my head to make a second or third hour. I’ve shown the full hour I already have to some people and it was exhausting for them.

There’s little chance that many will want to go beyond what I’ve already made.

At the same time, I’m spending time fussing with getting things squared in the room so the projector looks good, I’m talking to the city about zoning and other legal issues, I’m doing the books for the calendars… I’m not focusing on my knitting. While the louder voices say “these things are important” or “you’re getting things done”, there’s a small, quieter, but wiser voice saying “you’re hiding”.

I could hire people to do all these things that are making me feel “productive” and then I could work on the programs.

“But the budget is a little tight.” say the loud voices.

But if I started brining in revenue, then I could hire people to do stuff. So that should be my main thing right now, I think.

Yet I continue to make new programs.

In April, I wanted to open in June. It’s almost June.

I have enough programming. I know it works. Instead of the a la carte idea I had with programs I think for now I just make a package of the programs. That will make things much easier: “Here’s what you get” and “here’s the price” for now.

Think This More: MVP

Color. Hi 5. Turkey. House of Psych.

That’s an hour and we’re done. It’s a pretty good set. I decorate the living room, make a cooler invitation and then we have a full experience package.

To do: Limit the time on the new programs. Set the goal to get going June 1. Any time left over can be to work on the new programs. That means I need to polish up House of Psych.

June 1st Goals

Product Development Goals:

  1. Color Color, High 5, and Turkey Volcano polished and ready to go.
  2. House of Psych finalized. New background. Possibly new music. Fix known issues.
  3. Prepare the MVP “invitation experience”
  4. Prepare the MVP “living room experience.”
  5. Prepare the MVP “post-room experience”
  6. Setup booking software.

In Eureka Room Development News…

Yesterday I did calendar stuff in the morning. The afternoon was dedicated to making the chant the thing program. It was hard to get into and I kept getting distracted with technical details. (ugh). I think my logical analysis of the program took the fun out of it. I think today I need to let myself just to crazy and make weird shit instead of following the plan.
