Eureka Room Update 8/2/22

August 2, 2022

Last weekend was the second weekend that I was open. It’s still a bit of a soft open and I might have a grand opening soon. It’s getting better but there’s some major things I want to change.

The energy arc is just all jacked. When it was in my house, I wanted it to be calm and unassuming and then get crazier and more energetic. But now that it’s in this new place (and even in the home version), the first program, Color Color, is just too mellow. I need a bigger wow at the beginning. More energy and talking and interaction. To get them excited and then to say “hey chill out to this for 7 minutes” is just killing me to have to watch. I need to build and wow them more.

The technology is clunky. The Govee lights I have aren’t working that well sometimes. They don’t connect quickly enough to my phone. Just having to use my phone, a remote, a separate mac, and the PC to manage everything is clunky. I want it all on touchdesigner with a singular tablet I can control the whole thing. That would make it all way better and smoother. Plus easier to hand off to someone else to run.

This, unfortunately, means that I need to do some tech work, plus also to write new copy, record new voice overs, and do new visuals. Plus think about how the Eureka Room will interact with the waiting room. I’m picturing it as the waiting room video does some exposition, and then the Eureka Room bursts to life. It could be as a response to what the video is saying or just sort of rumbling to life. Maybe it starts with some music and then it builds and the music invades the waiting room. Then I come in and let them in. Inside the room there is some excitement and visuals for a little while as they get settled, then it fades away and then ding ding ding eureka room.

It’s going to be a long week but I’m excited to get back on creating great content.
